Practical Site Design is a web design and development company based in Houston, TX. This policy explains what information we collect through https://practicalsitedesign.com, why we collect it, and what we do with it. It is written to describe how this website actually works, rather than to cover every practice a website could theoretically have.
The short version
We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use this website, which sets cookies. We do not run advertising trackers or retargeting pixels, and we do not sell, rent, or trade your information. The only personal information we collect is what you type into our contact form and send to us on purpose.
What we collect
Information you give us
Our contact form asks for your name, email address, phone number, and a message. We only receive this if you fill the form in and submit it. We use it to reply to you and to discuss working together. That is all.
If you email or call us directly, we have whatever you chose to send us.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find this website and what they do once they arrive. It sets cookies in your browser and sends information to Google, including your IP address, approximate location (usually city level), device and browser type, the pages you view, how you arrived, and how you interact with the site.
Beyond page views, Google Analytics automatically measures things like how far you scroll, clicks on links leading away from our site, file downloads, and site searches. We also record specific actions that tell us the site is working, such as submitting the contact form or clicking a call button. We use all of this in aggregate, to answer questions like "are people finding our Katy page" and "does anyone reach the contact form". We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not try to.
This information is handled by Google under its own privacy policy. If you would rather not be measured, Google publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on every site, and most browsers' tracking protection or an ad blocker will also stop it.
Server logs
Our website is hosted by Netlify. Like nearly every web host, Netlify keeps server logs that include IP addresses and basic request information. This happens for every website on the internet and is used to serve the site and keep it secure. We do not use these logs to build a profile of you, and we do not connect them to anything else.
Our contact form is protected from spam by Google reCAPTCHA. When you use the form, reCAPTCHA receives information from your browser, including your IP address, to determine whether you are a person or a bot. This information goes to Google and is handled under Google's own privacy policy and terms of service. We do not receive it. We use reCAPTCHA only to stop spam submissions.
Your dark mode preference
If you switch this site to dark mode, we save that choice in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it on your next visit. This is not a cookie, it is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it stays on your device. Clearing your browser data removes it.
What we do not do
- We do not use advertising trackers, retargeting, or tracking pixels.
- We do not run ads, and we do not use your visit to follow you around the internet.
- We do not load fonts from third parties. Our fonts are served from our own site, so no font provider sees your visit.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone for their own marketing.
- We do not use Google Analytics to identify you personally.
Who else sees your information
We keep this list short on purpose, because it is short:
- Netlify hosts this website and receives contact form submissions on our behalf. They act as our service provider and process this information so we can read it.
- Google receives Google Analytics data about your visit, and reCAPTCHA data from your browser when you use our contact form, both as described above.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our legal rights. We have not been asked to do so.
How long we keep it
We keep contact form submissions for as long as they are useful for talking with you and for our business records. If you would like us to delete your enquiry, email us and we will.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information under laws such as the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act or the California Consumer Privacy Act. These generally include the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, and to have it deleted.
We would honour these requests regardless of where you live, because there is very little to honour. Email us at alyse@practicalsitedesign.com and we will handle it. We will not charge you or make you create an account to ask.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing for you to opt out of.
Children
This website is for businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change how this website handles information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If we ever start using analytics or anything else that watches how you use the site, we will say so here plainly rather than burying it.
